Gregory Mortenson
A thoroughly educated painter, Gregory Mortenson first completing a Bachelor’s degree at Southern Virginia University, then moving on to study classical painting with Patrick Devonas and William Whitaker. He later moved to New York City to complete the four year curriculum at the Grand Central Academy of Art, after which he studied privately with Jacob Collins for two more years. With a refined skill in classical painting techniques, Gregory has become known for his striking portraits, delicately painted and filled with psychological depth. He has been featured frequently in art publications and has received numerous awards, including most recently an Honor Award at the 2013 Portrait Society of America International Competition and the 2013 Salon International 2nd Place Award. Gregory currently lives, paints, and teaches in New York City. Below is one of his three works in the show, entitled “Thiabault.”
Neil Nelson
Neil Nelson lives and works in Berwick-Upon-Tweed in Northumberland, England. After studying fine art at Northumberland College of Art and Design, Neil continued his studies in Classical Realism at Studio Escalier in Southern France. Though he paints many subjects, Neil is best known for his still life work, which features quiet, light-filled compositions of objects like fruit, bottles, and jars. Neil has had the honor of exhibiting at the National Portrait Gallery in London, the Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh, and London’s Mall Galleries, as well as numerous solo and group shows in England, Scotland, and the United States. He, too, has three works in this show, including the one shown below, called “The Fading 2.”
Sydney Bella Sparrow
Last but not least, Sydney Bella Sparrow will have two works featured in May’s show.
Sydney Bella Sparrow has spent her young life studying and refining her craft. She moved to New England in the late 90’s after living in Chicago and New York City. It is here where she has found an environment which has allowed her to blossom into one of New England’s most respected painters. Through her craftmanship, Sparrow expresses an intricate knowledge of her subject and the inherent beauty of the natural world. She finds beauty in both the grand and the idle, but regardless of subject, Sparrow handles each and every one with the same care and reverence. (Source: Sydney Bella Sparrow)
