Geoffrey Johnson Solo Exhibition

Geoffrey Johnson builds his paintings out of restraint: muted palettes, high contrast, and a deliberate stripping away of detail. Figures dissolve into silhouette, architecture becomes suggestion, and what’s left is something quieter and more elusive. He creates a sense of place defined less by what you see and more by what you feel. His work occupies that narrow space between realism and abstraction, where atmosphere takes precedence over description and every decision is reduced to its essential form.

This new solo exhibition will bring together a body of work that leans fully into that tension. Streets, interiors, and fleeting human presence emerge through shadow and light, often carrying a sense of solitude that feels both cinematic and deeply personal. The paintings don’t offer narratives so much as moments—glimpsed, remembered, and held just long enough to register before slipping away.

About Geoffrey Johnson:

Born in 1965 in Greensboro, North Carolina, Geoffrey Johnson graduated from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, where he received numerous awards for artistic excellence. Drawing inspiration from travel and direct observation, he has developed a distinctive approach to painting.

Johnson often works on multiple paintings simultaneously to maintain a fresh perspective, favoring high-contrast compositions and dramatic lighting. His work transforms familiar spaces into atmospheric scenes that evoke memory and a strong sense of place.

Influenced in part by a collection of vintage photographs, he has produced interiors and architectural works ranging from muted, monochromatic palettes to more vivid color. His paintings are held in private and corporate collections, including Coca-Cola, Turner Broadcasting, BellSouth, and Wells Fargo.
