Gallery patrons may recognize Larry Preston as one of our fine gallery artists and as a masterful painter of still-life scenes. With quiet refinement, Preston depicts everyday objects and elevates them through his thoughtful composition and exquisite craftsmanship.

Some of you may be surprised to discover that Larry Preston is also an accomplished guitar player! Preston rocks out with Zonkaraz, a Worcester, Massachusetts-based band. Zonkaraz has been performing original music since the 1970s and they will hold their last performance as a group this Saturday, June 22. The band has an immense following from around the US and the final show will be bittersweet for the band and their fans.
Prior to joining Zonkaraz, Preston played with a few country bands at “small roadhouses in the woods.” That all changed when he joined Zonkaraz in the late ‘70s. Preston joined the already established group and brought his own original style and flair for experimentation to the band.
Though he began as a musician, Preston’s flair for experimentation lead him to embark on his journey to becoming a painter- first through the rediscovery of painting after 20 years as a musician, then through the trial of different painting approaches before solidifying his personal style. Painting in oil on panel, Larry Preston’s application of many semi-transparent oil glazes result in work that has great depth and luminosity- he is one multi-talented guy!
We wish Larry and Zonkaraz all of the best for their last performance on Saturday night!
