Francisco Pereira

Francisco Pereira (Caracas, Venezuela, 1959) is a sculptor and architect whose work transforms a fantastical universe into sculptural form. Born in Caracas, Pereira developed the concept of the evolution of the psyche through a series of unique characters he calls Bipeds—creatures that embody a continuous process of transformation from animal to human, from quadruped to biped. His surprising bestiary draws from a dreamlike and surreal imagination, exploring themes of identity, instinct, and consciousness. Pereira’s artistic journey began in architecture, where he cultivated a deep understanding of the relationship between art and space, a concept that informed many of his early projects.

His work as a sculptor emerged through extensive experimentation with clay models and resin pieces, eventually leading to bronze casting. The symbolism of the Bipeds reflects the psychic evolution of the animal, our most natural essence, toward human awareness and reason. Over time, Pereira has created an original bestiary populated by figures such as Bifante, Birafa, and Bidog, each with its own distinct personality. Through these hybrid beings, he expresses life as a journey whose point of departure is known, but whose destination remains uncertain. Born from a period of personal maturity and reflection, this creative metamorphosis transformed lived experience into artistic expression, inviting viewers to move beyond visual contemplation and embark on their own path of personal transformation.
