We deeply regret to inform you that Tom Buechner passed away on Sunday, June 13th, 2010 at his home in Corning, New York. Tom was not only an artist we were honored to represent at the gallery for 10 years, but he was also a dear friend. We were continuously astounded by Tom's talent, wit, generosity, intellect, and extreme kindness. Having lived the life of five men, he was the truest and most sincere mentor we could have ever wished for.

Many of you are vastly familiar with Tom's captivating and often whimsical paintings, although we want to share a quick anecdote about Tom's character with you. The day before Tom was due to leave Corning to travel down to Alexandria for his 60 year Retrospective show at the gallery this past September, we mentioned to him that upon his arrival we had a favor. We had a few unsigned paintings that desperately needed his trademark signature on them and would he mind signing them before the opening? Tom of course agreed and only asked if we had an adequate paintbrush for the task, we told him that we did. The following day, Tom arrived at the gallery ready to take care of these few wily, unsigned paintings and we immediately discovered that our selection of top notch brushes had disappeared. Being the gentleman that he was, Tom gave us a hard time about the redheaded stepchild of a paintbrush that we offered him and then went to work making jokes the whole way through every unsigned painting. Again, as many of you know, the Retrospective was a thrilling success and many of you were able to meet Tom for the first time. I have no doubt that he amazed and thrilled you, just as he had us. A week following the opening, we received a small package from Tom. Inside we found a beautiful, new paintbrush with a note that said this:
Hi gang!
This is for negligent painters (like me) who fail to sign their work.
Love, Tom
Always the kind and witty gentleman, Tom was a pleasure to work with and an even greater pleasure to know. We'll include links to several articles and websites that pay tribute to such an incredible individual.
